A complete crate consists of 3 sections - the base, the centre-piece, and the lid on top. Start by cutting the shapes of the base out of styrene (see Ordnance_Crate_Base.pdfdownloads).
When you've cut out all the shapes use a file or sandpaper to remove the tiny ridges along the edges of each piece (these ridges are formed when scoring or cutting styrene with a blade). See image below:
